Darrell J Fraser Library
Ballarat Clarendon College
Senior Campus
2010
The project comprises a new library, multi-purpose teaching spaces, tutorial rooms and facilities for the storage of equipment and resources. The design of the library began with an understanding of the need to produce a confident, contemporary building within the College that is sympathetic to the historic environment of the neighbouring residential streets. It began with a thorough site inspection and analysis of the College Campus, informed by both new research and our years of familiarity with the Campus.
This latest addition sits happily alongside the McKinnon Wing, acknowledging its scale while referencing many of the older buildings in its selection of materials. The Library is carefully positioned to align with existing setbacks and sight-lines, reinforcing the College’s presence on Murray Street, without dominating Ajax Street.
